Anyone know or have heard of Geocaching?
Geocaching is a "game" and is finding "boxes" or better caches, hidden throughout the world.
But we need not go far, there are probably caches right near where you live or on a trip, you may have been a few feet without knowing one.
Caches are placed by other geocachers and follow certain rules. Can not be buried, but always conveniently hidden, must be sealed, contain a logbook (small book for records of visits to the cache) and a short explanation of the game for those who find the cache by chance again leave it.
Optionally can be left or exchanged small "gifts" of nominal value.
Who caches must have a game as a "weapon" a mandatory GPS.
Each cache has an associated GPS coordinate or a small puzzle to get that same coordinate.
It is coordinated through this we get to the cache.
When we find the cache is important to be very discreet. We do not want anyone to go to ruin.
We open the cache, we record our visit in the logbook (this is the main one), take down this one, we put each other and exactly where the cache was.
This is part of these optional. The important thing is to always leave one when you take another.
Some variations:
* Micro-cache: small box where it is almost the only record book - the most common are boxes of 35mm photographic film.
* Multi-cache: requires a visit to one or more intermediate points to determine the coordinates of the final cache.
* Cache-mystery: The geocacher must solve a task to find him.
* Cache-event: a gathering of geocachers.
* Virtual: place to visit no hidden boxes but that is supposed to have something beautiful or interesting. The visit will be proven through the revelation of something that ensures that the geocacher was present.
Good, because I'm explaining all this? Why I discovered that you can also do geocaching with our toys.
The Trimble Geocache Navigator 2.0.4 in Java, is the first program of geocaching (at least that I know of) that is connected directly to the Geocaching.com database caches. Through it you can access in real time, the caches near your location, data caches, and this still gives the option to leave your notes on caches found.
The program is very well done and has all kinds of information you need to find new caches. For example, you can set the time to do a search for caches, how far your location it will look and what types of cache either. You can download maps of your location, see in what direction is that the cache and you're away from it.
The international site of the "game" is: www.geocaching.com
And the Brazilian website is: www.brasilcaching.com
Whenever we find a cache is required to register visit our page in the cache.
You are hoping to start practicing? If you are looking for some adventure cool to do on vacation year-end just to find a good one. Usually these caches are easy places to find and most, I believe, in cool places to visit. Good option to practice with friends and family as a sport is cheap, healthy and leads us to visit places we never thought to exist, sometimes right next to our house!
It is given the hint.
* Works on any phone with Java support, even without internal GPS, so he uses A-GPS (with data connection) but it is also possible to use it on mobile phones with GPS internal or external, or also using GPS and A- GPS together!
